How the gate works
Each event is scored 0–100 from the official age × gender standards. You need ≥ 60 in every event to pass (minimum total 180/300). Fail one event and the whole test fails. Score ≥ 90 in every event with 270+ total to earn the Physical Fitness Badge.
Standards below are the official 60-point (pass) and 100-point (max) anchors per age group, simplified from FM 7-22 / DA Form 705 tables.

APFT FAQ
What is the APFT?
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) was the U.S. Army's fitness test: 2 minutes of push-ups, 2 minutes of sit-ups, and a timed 2-mile run. Each event scored 0–100 points based on age group and gender, for a total of 0–300. A minimum of 60 points in each event was required to pass.
Is the APFT still used by the Army?
No. The APFT was phased out in 2020 and replaced by the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), which has 6 events. This calculator covers the legacy APFT scheme for historical reference and training purposes; for the current test use our ACFT score calculator.
What score do I need to pass the APFT?
You must score at least 60 points in each of the three events (push-ups, sit-ups, 2-mile run), which gives a minimum passing total of 180 out of 300. Failing any single event fails the whole test, even with a high total.
What is the APFT Physical Fitness Badge?
Soldiers who scored 270 or above on the APFT, with a minimum of 90 points in each event, were awarded the Physical Fitness Badge, worn on the physical training uniform.
APFT vs ACFT — what is the difference?
The legacy APFT had 3 events (push-ups, sit-ups, 2-mile run) scored 0–300 by age and gender. The active ACFT has 6 events (3RM deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank, 2-mile run) scored 0–600. The ACFT replaced the APFT starting in 2019–2020. Score the current test with our ACFT score calculator.
How accurate are this calculator's scores?
Scores are a simplified estimate: linear interpolation between the official 60-point and 100-point standards per age group and gender (from Army FM 7-22 / DA Form 705 tables). They can differ by 1–2 points from official scoring tables. Official record scores are set by a unit grader.
