Weight Watchers Points Calculator

Calculate PointsPlus (US), ProPoints (UK), and Original Points (pre-2011) from nutrition labels — with a full math breakdown.

Important: legacy formulas, not the current WW system. This calculator uses the published Weight Watchers legacy formulas (PointsPlus 2011–2015, ProPoints UK, Original Points pre-2011). The current WW system (SmartPoints/Points) is proprietary and cannot be calculated here. This tool is not affiliated with WW International.
PointsPlus formula (US):
points = max(0, round((16×protein + 19×carbs + 45×fat − 14×fiber) ÷ 175))
All nutrients in grams per serving. Fiber reduces points. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounds up).

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose the points system tab you want to use: PointsPlus (United States), ProPoints (United Kingdom), or Original (pre-2011 WW system).
  2. Read the nutrition label for the serving you will eat, then enter the numbers in grams (or calories for the Original tab).
  3. Press the calculate button. The result shows the points value with a breakdown of each component so the formula stays transparent.
  4. For a different serving size, adjust all nutrition numbers to that serving and recalculate — don't mix numbers from different serving sizes.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate Weight Watchers points?
For the PointsPlus system (US, 2011–2015), the formula is points = max(0, round((16 × protein + 19 × carbohydrates + 45 × fat − 14 × fiber) ÷ 175)), with all nutrients in grams per serving. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number and cannot be negative. Enter the numbers from the nutrition label into the calculator above to get the result with its breakdown.
What is the correct PointsPlus formula?
The published PointsPlus formula: PointsPlus = max(0, round((16 × protein + 19 × carbohydrates + 45 × fat − 14 × fiber) ÷ 175)). Protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber are all in grams. Fat has the largest weight (45), protein the smallest (16), and fiber reduces the total (coefficient −14).
What is the difference between PointsPlus and ProPoints?
Both use the same divisor 175 and the same coefficients: protein 16, carbohydrates 19, and fat 45. The only difference is fiber: US PointsPlus subtracts fiber (−14 × fiber), while UK ProPoints adds it (+5 × fiber). High-fiber foods can therefore score differently in the two systems — make sure you use the matching tab.
What is the Original Points system?
Original Points is the pre-2011 Weight Watchers system, calorie-based rather than macro-based: points = max(0, round(calories ÷ 50 + fat ÷ 12 − min(fiber, 4) ÷ 5)). Every 50 calories is worth one point, every 12 grams of fat adds one point, and each gram of fiber subtracts 0.2 points — but fiber is only counted up to 4 grams.
Why is the result different from the current WW app?
Because the current WW app uses the proprietary SmartPoints/Points system (a company secret) that weighs calories, saturated fat, sugar, and protein differently. This calculator only computes the published legacy formulas (PointsPlus, ProPoints, Original Points), so the results will indeed differ from the latest official WW app.
Does fiber reduce Weight Watchers points?
It depends on the system. In US PointsPlus, yes — fiber reduces points with a coefficient of −14. In UK ProPoints, no — fiber slightly increases points (+5). In the pre-2011 Original system, fiber reduces points but is capped at 4 grams per serving.
What is the points rounding rule?
The raw formula result is rounded to the nearest whole number, with 0.5 always rounding up (e.g. 4.5 becomes 5). If the raw value is negative — for example a food that is almost entirely fiber — the result is clamped to 0 because points cannot be negative.
Is this calculator official from Weight Watchers?
No. This calculator was created for educational purposes and is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by WW International. Weight Watchers, PointsPlus, ProPoints, and SmartPoints are registered trademarks of WW International, Inc.
Can a food be worth 0 points?
Yes — in this formula, a food with a raw value below 0.5 rounds to 0, for example very low-calorie vegetables. However, the zero-point-food concept in the modern WW program (such as fruit and vegetables in SmartPoints) is a separate program rule, not a result of this legacy formula.
Can this calculator's results be used as diet advice?
No. The results are purely mathematical calculations from legacy formulas for educational purposes, not medical advice or diet recommendations. Everyone's nutritional needs differ — consult a doctor or nutritionist before changing your eating habits, especially if you have certain health conditions.
