Weigh UK Coins Calculator
Put your UK coins on a scale and work out what they are worth: weigh one denomination for an accurate count, weigh a mixed bag for a rough estimate, or plan standard UK bank bags. Uses official Royal Mint coin specifications. 100% client-side — nothing is uploaded.
Weight → value
Weigh coins of a single denomination (e.g. a jar of 2p coins) and get the estimated count and value. Sorting first makes this far more accurate than weighing mixed coins.
Weigh a mixed bag and estimate its value under a stated composition assumption. This is a rough estimate — real mixes differ.
UK bank bag calculator
Standard UK bank bag values (as used by banks such as Nationwide): £2 and £1 coins in £20 bags, 50p and 20p in £10 bags, 10p and 5p in £5 bags, 2p and 1p in £1 bags. Bags must be full and single-denomination.

Circulated coins vary slightly: the Mint allows a small manufacturing tolerance and worn coins lose a little metal, so weighed estimates carry a few percent of uncertainty. Commemorative 50p and £2 coins share the same weight specification as standard ones.
Not what you need?

Weighing UK coins — FAQs
How many coins are in a standard UK bank bag?
£2: 10 coins per £20.00 bag (120.00 g of coins); £1: 20 coins per £20.00 bag (175.00 g of coins); 50p: 20 coins per £10.00 bag (160.00 g of coins); 20p: 50 coins per £10.00 bag (250.00 g of coins); 10p: 50 coins per £5.00 bag (325.00 g of coins); 5p: 100 coins per £5.00 bag (325.00 g of coins); 2p: 50 coins per £1.00 bag (356.00 g of coins); 1p: 100 coins per £1.00 bag (356.00 g of coins). Bag values follow the standard UK bank bag denominations used by high-street banks.
How much does a full bank bag of 20p coins weigh?
250.00 g – 50 coins at 5.00 g each, with a face value of £10.00.
Can I weigh a bag of mixed coins to work out its value?
Only as a rough estimate. Assuming an even mix of all eight denominations, the average coin weighs 6.7725 g and is worth £0.49, so 100 g of mixed coins is roughly 14.8 coins worth about £7.16. Real-world mixes vary widely, so sort by denomination and use the single-denomination mode for an accurate count.
How accurate is counting coins by weighing them?
For a single denomination it is very reliable: divide the total weight by the Royal Mint per-coin weight and round to the nearest whole coin. The Mint allows a small manufacturing tolerance, and worn coins lose a little metal, so expect up to a few percent of error on circulated coins. Mixed denominations can only ever be estimated, never counted exactly by weight.
How much does a full £20 bag of £2 coins weigh?
120.00 g of coins – 10 coins at 12.00 g each.

The £2 coin at 12.00 g – heavier than the £1 coin (8.75 g) and the 50p piece (8.00 g).

Yes. Every circulating 50p coin, including commemorative designs, is struck to the same 8.00 g Royal Mint specification.
How many 2p coins are in 1 kilogram?
About 140 coins, worth £2.80. At 7.12 g per coin, 140 coins should weigh 996.80 g – a real scale will land within a few grams either way on worn, circulated coins.
How much do all eight full bank bags weigh together?
2,067.00 g (2.067 kg) of coins, with a combined face value of £72.00.

Are banknotes included in the bank bag calculator?
No. It covers the eight circulating UK coin denominations only; the Bank of England publishes no fixed per-note weight, so notes cannot be weighed this way.

I want to enter coin counts and get the total weight – can this tool do that?
No – this tool works in the weight-to-value direction: you weigh coins and it estimates their value. For the counts-to-weight-and-value direction, use the GBP section of our money weight calculator, which covers UK coins alongside US and euro cash.
