GIF to PNG Converter

Convert GIF to lossless PNG right in your browser. Transparency preserved, 10–200% scale resize, sequence mode for animated GIFs, and batch conversion — your files never leave your device.

Only .gif (GIF87a / GIF89a) · processed locally on your device

Settings

Conversion mode

Captures the frame shown after the delay. This is a time approximation, not numbered-frame extraction.

Output size

Aspect ratio is always locked — the image will never get squashed.

Background (for transparent GIFs)

PNG supports full transparency, so GIF transparency is preserved by default.

Batch actions

Download All fetches files one by one in sequence (no ZIP, no external libraries). Allow multiple downloads if the browser asks.

Files

No files yet. Add GIFs via the upload area above.

How it works

  1. Add GIFs — drag & drop or click the upload area. Multiple files allowed.
  2. Set options — choose mode, scale, and background. Every change re-converts automatically.
  3. Compare — see before/after previews plus per-item file size comparison.
  4. Download — click Download PNG per file, or Download All for everything at once.
Privacy: files are read with the File API and drawn to canvas directly on your device, then exported via canvas.toBlob('image/png'). No upload, no server, no file-content tracking.

Scope boundary — honest limitations

  • Animation is not carried over. PNG does not support animation; output is always a static image of one frame (usually the first frame, or the frame shown at the delay/interval).
  • Not a precise frame extractor. This tool does not decode numbered frames from the GIF; Sequence mode is a series of timed captures (approximation), not exact "frames 1..N".
  • PNG is almost always larger than GIF. That is the format’s nature (lossless full color vs 256-color palette), not a bug.
  • No advanced compression controls — uses the browser’s built-in PNG encoder as-is.
  • Giant GIF files (hundreds of MB or tens of thousands of pixels) can exhaust tab memory.
  • vs GIF to JPG: sibling tool for JPG output — much smaller files for photos, but no transparency and not lossless.

Frequently asked questions

Is this GIF to PNG converter free?
Yes, 100 percent free with no file-count limits, no account sign-up, and no watermark. Everything runs in your own browser using the File API and canvas.
Are my GIF files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are read directly on your device and not a single byte is sent to the internet. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
What about animated GIFs — does the animation carry over?
No. The result is a single static PNG image containing one frame of that animation, because the PNG format does not support animation. Sequence mode captures several frames into separate PNG files as an approximation.
Which frame is captured from an animated GIF?
The frame showing in the browser at conversion time, usually the first frame. The millisecond-delay option allows capturing other moments, but this is a time approximation, not precise numbered-frame extraction.
Is the PNG output lossless?
Yes. The generated PNG uses the browser’s built-in encoder with no lossy compression, so pixel quality is identical to the source frame at the same scale.
Why is the resulting PNG file larger than the original GIF?
GIF uses a maximum 256-color palette with compression that is efficient for simple graphics, while PNG stores full color losslessly. For photos or gradients, PNG can be several times larger — that is normal.
How is GIF transparency handled?
By default transparency is preserved because PNG supports the alpha channel. You can also fill transparent areas with white, black, or a custom color before converting.
Can I resize the PNG output?
Yes, set the scale from 10 to 200 percent with quick presets. The aspect ratio is always locked so the image never gets squashed.
Which formats does this tool accept?
Files in GIF87a or GIF89a format with a .gif extension. Other files, including renamed PNGs or JPGs, are rejected with a clear error message.
How many files can be converted at once?
As many as your browser’s memory can handle. Each file is processed and can be downloaded one by one, or all at once via the Download All button.
How does this tool differ from GIF to JPG?
PNG is lossless and supports transparency — ideal for graphics, logos, and archives. JPG produces much smaller files for photos but without transparency and with slight quality loss.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tool runs entirely in a modern browser on phones and laptops, with no installation and no plugins.
How do I download all results at once?
Click Download All PNGs; the browser will download the files one by one in sequence. Allow multiple downloads if the browser asks for permission.
Is my privacy protected for personal files?
Yes. Because there is no server upload, personal files never leave your device. Use the Clear button to wipe all data from the page’s memory.
