Money Counter

Count the total value of your stack of rupiah denominations: enter the count of each denomination to get the total, per-denomination breakdown, and total bill/coin count.

Educational calculation: not financial advice. Always recount cash stacks manually.

Total = Count of Each Denomination × Denomination Value

Fill in the bill/coin count for each rupiah denomination. Example pre-filled: 3×Rp100,000 + 5×Rp50,000 + 2×Rp20,000 = Rp590,000.

Check Stack Against Target

Have a nominal target (e.g., a savings target)? Enter your stack and the target: the calculator computes the difference (short/over) plus denomination suggestions to complete or reduce it.

Your stack per denomination

Two-Stack Comparator

Compare the value of two cash stacks: e.g., wallet contents vs petty cash: with each one's denomination breakdown.

Stack B

Denomination Combinations from a Nominal Target

Have a nominal target and want to know its denomination makeup? Enter the amount: the calculator gives three options: fewest bills/coins, paper money only, and most coins (e.g., Rp590,000 = 11,800 × Rp50 coins).

Frequently Asked Questions

Explains the money counter concept, rupiah denominations, and this tool's limits. This is educational material, not financial advice.

What is a money counter?

A money counter computes the TOTAL value of a stack of rupiah denominations you hold: you enter the count of each denomination (e.g., how many Rp100,000 bills, how many Rp500 coins), then the calculator adds them into a rupiah total plus a per-denomination breakdown. Example: 3 × Rp100,000 + 5 × Rp50,000 + 2 × Rp20,000 = Rp300,000 + Rp250,000 + Rp40,000 = Rp590,000. Useful for counting wallet contents, petty cash, or cash savings.

How is it different from a change calculator?

This calculator answers what the TOTAL value of a stack of denominations you hold is (no transaction), while a change calculator answers how much CHANGE comes from a transaction: cash paid minus the purchase total, broken down into rupiah denominations. Example of the difference: a stack of 3× Rp100,000 + 5× Rp50,000 + 2× Rp20,000 is counted here as Rp590,000 total; if Rp100,000 is used to pay for an Rp87,500 purchase, the change is Rp12,500: that is the change calculator's domain.

Any tips for counting large cash stacks?

Sort denominations from largest to smallest, then count in groups of 100 bills (one bundle) for easy rechecking: e.g., one bundle of 100 × Rp50,000 bills = Rp5,000,000. Note each bundle's subtotal, then add all subtotals into the final total. For fewer than 100 bills, count them one by one directly. When done, compare the total against your target using the Check Target mode to see the difference.

Are coins and paper money counted differently?

No: the value computation is identical: denomination times count. The difference is only the display category: denominations from Rp100,000 down to Rp1,000 are paper money (counted per bill), while Rp500, Rp200, Rp100, and Rp50 are coins (counted per coin). The calculator shows both as bills/coins in the breakdown and sums the overall bill/coin count.

How accurate are the results? Is there any rounding?

The results are exact with no rounding: all computations use rupiah integers, not decimals. The smallest supported rupiah denomination is Rp50: amounts that are not multiples of Rp50 are rejected with a clear message. As long as the count of each entered denomination is correct, the displayed total is the exact amount.

I have a cash stack to pay for something: which calculator should I use?

It depends on the question. If the question is 'what is the total of my cash stack' (e.g., for a savings target), use this calculator's Check Target mode: e.g., a stack of Rp590,000 against a target of Rp1,000,000 shows a shortfall of Rp410,000, with a denomination suggestion of 4× Rp100,000 + 1× Rp10,000 to complete it. If the question is 'how much change comes from this transaction', use the change calculator since it has a purchase total and change breakdown.

Can this calculator be used for currencies other than rupiah?

No: this calculator is rupiah (IDR) only. Each country has a different denomination list, so the count-total, check-target, and denomination-combination modes do not apply to other currencies. We chose to honestly limit it to IDR rather than show wrong results for other currencies.
