Calculate your Life Path Number

Method A — Simplified

Add every digit of MMDDYYYY, then reduce.

Method B — 3-Cycle

Reduce month, day and year separately, then add and reduce once.

Personal Year Number

From your birth month + day and the universal year. 1 = new beginnings … 9 = completion.

Compatibility Matrix

Pick two life path numbers for a fun compatibility read. Master Numbers meet as their roots (11→2, 22→4, 33→6).

How the calculation works

Method A — Simplified

  1. Write your birth date as eight digits: MMDDYYYY (e.g. 29 Jan 1990 → 01291990).
  2. Add all eight digits (0+1+2+9+1+9+9+0 = 31).
  3. Add the digits of the result until you reach a single digit or a Master Number (31 → 3+1 = 4).

Method B — 3-Cycle

  1. Reduce the month, day and year separately (29 → 2+9 = 11, kept as a Master Number; 1990 → 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 10 → 1).
  2. Add the three results (1 + 11 + 1 = 13).
  3. Reduce once more (13 → 4).

Master Numbers

11, 22 and 33 are never reduced further. They are read as intensified versions of 2, 4 and 6 — greater potential, greater pressure.

Personal Year Number

Universal year = calendar year reduced to a digit (2026 → 10 → 1). Add your reduced birth month + reduced birth day + universal year, then reduce to a single digit 1–9 (Master Numbers are reduced here by convention).

Frequently asked questions

What is a life path number?

A life path number is the core number in numerology, derived from your full birth date. It is said to describe your natural strengths, challenges, and the themes of your life journey. There are 12 possible results: the numbers 1 through 9 plus the Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33, which are traditionally not reduced further.

How do you calculate a life path number?

Two common methods exist. The simplified method: write your birth date as MMDDYYYY, add all eight digits together, then keep adding the digits of the result until you reach a single digit or a Master Number (11, 22, 33). The 3-cycle method: reduce the month, day, and year separately first (each to a single digit or Master Number), add those three results, and reduce once more. This calculator shows both methods side by side with every step, so you can see exactly where the arithmetic goes.

Why do the simplified and 3-cycle methods give different results?

Because reduction order matters when Master Numbers are involved. A Master Number only survives if it appears as a complete intermediate result. In the 3-cycle method, a month of 11 or a day of 29 (which reduces to 11) is preserved as 11 before the final sum. In the simplified method, those digits are dissolved into the big total first, so the 11 may never appear — or the reverse can happen, with a Master Number emerging from the total that the 3-cycle method never sees. Neither method is 'wrong'; they are two different conventions, which is why this tool shows both and tells you when they disagree.

What are Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33?

Master Numbers are double-digit numbers that numerology traditionally does not reduce: 11 (a heightened 2 — intuition and inspiration), 22 (a heightened 4 — the master builder, turning big visions into reality), and 33 (a heightened 6 — the master teacher, love and service on a wide scale). They are considered more intense and more demanding versions of their root numbers, carrying greater potential and greater pressure.

Is numerology scientific?

No — numerology is not supported by scientific evidence and no study has shown that birth dates predict personality or life outcomes. Treat it as entertainment and self-reflection, like a personality quiz or horoscope: fun for sparking conversation and introspection, but not a basis for real decisions about careers, relationships, or money. This tool is built for fun and is honest about that.

What is a Personal Year Number?

A Personal Year Number describes the theme of a specific calendar year for you. It is calculated from your birth month and day plus the universal year (the calendar year reduced to a digit). The result is always 1–9: 1 is a year of new beginnings, 9 a year of completion and letting go, and so on. It is part of the same numerological tradition — interpretive, not predictive.

How does the compatibility matrix work?

Pick any two life path numbers and the matrix scores the pairing from 1 to 5. Identical numbers score 5 (natural resonance); Master Numbers are matched through their root numbers (11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6). The ratings come from a simple published rule: 13 harmonious pairings, 10 friction pairings, everything else neutral. It is a conversation starter for fun — real relationships depend on communication, not arithmetic.

Can my life path number change?

No — it is derived from your birth date, which never changes. What can change is how it is calculated: different methods, and different handling of Master Numbers, can produce different results for the same birth date. If an online calculator disagrees with this one, check which method it uses (simplified vs 3-cycle) and whether it preserves Master Numbers.

Remember: numerology is entertainment, not science. No birth-date formula can predict your personality, relationships or future — this page is for fun and reflection.
