Work out your gross pay — total earnings before taxes and deductions — from hourly rate × hours, overtime at 1.5×, double time, annual salary, bonuses, commissions and tips. Results shown weekly, biweekly, monthly and annually.
Estimates for education only — not payroll or tax advice. Overtime rules shown use the U.S. federal (FLSA) baseline; your state or employer may differ.
Effective hourly rate: $21.11
Worked examples
Hourly + overtime
$20/hour × 40 regular hours, plus 5 overtime hours at 1.5× ($30/hour):
$800.00 + $150.00 = $950.00 gross per week
Salary to monthly
$60,000 annual salary:
$60,000 ÷ 12 = $5,000.00 per month · ÷ 26 = $2,307.69 biweekly
Everything together
$950 wages + $500 bonus + $120 tips + 5% commission on $10,000 sales ($500):
$950 + $500 + $120 + $500 = $2,070.00 gross per week
Methodology — the formulas
Regular pay = hourly rate × regular hours
Overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × overtime multiplier — the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires at least 1.5× the regular rate for hours over 40 in a week for non-exempt employees.
Double-time pay = double-time hours × hourly rate × double-time multiplier (default 2×; used where employer policy or state law requires it).
Commission = commission rate × sales for the pay period.
Gross pay = regular + overtime + double-time + bonus + commission + tips — all before any deductions.
Frequency conversion: annual = weekly × 52, biweekly = weekly × 2, monthly = weekly × 52 ÷ 12. Bonus, commission and tips are entered per pay period and prorated to a weekly figure automatically.
Effective hourly rate = gross pay ÷ total hours worked (hourly mode), or annual gross ÷ 2,080 hours as the hourly equivalent (salary mode).
Figures are estimates for education only — not payroll or tax advice. Actual paychecks depend on employer policy, state law, and pre-tax deductions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Gross pay is the total amount you earn before any deductions are taken out. It includes your base wages or salary plus overtime, bonuses, commissions, and reported tips. Net (take-home) pay is what remains after taxes and other deductions.
Multiply your hourly rate by regular hours, add overtime (overtime hours × overtime rate), then add any bonuses, commissions, and tips. Example: $20/hour × 40 regular hours + 5 overtime hours × $30 = $800 + $150 = $950 gross pay for the week.
Under the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must be paid at least 1.5 times their regular hourly rate for hours worked over 40 in a week — so a $20/hour rate becomes a $30/hour overtime rate. Some employers or states also pay double time (2×) for certain hours. This calculator defaults to 1.5× and lets you change the multiplier.
Multiply hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. Example: $20/hour × 40 hours × 52 = $41,600 per year. The calculator's frequency table shows the weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual figures automatically.
Divide the annual salary: by 12 for monthly, by 26 for biweekly, by 52 for weekly. Example: a $60,000 salary = $5,000 per month, $2,307.69 biweekly, and $1,153.85 per week.
Yes. Bonuses are added to gross pay before any deductions. Example: $950 in wages + a $500 bonus + $120 in tips = $1,570 gross pay for the week.
Commission is added on top of base pay: commission = commission rate × sales. Example: 5% of $10,000 in sales = $500 in commission, so $950 + $500 bonus + $120 tips + $500 commission = $2,070 gross pay for the week.
Yes. Reported tips are part of gross pay and are added before deductions, just like wages and bonuses.
Gross pay is earnings before deductions; net pay (take-home pay) is what is left after income tax, FICA, and other deductions. This tool calculates gross pay only — to estimate net pay, use our take-home-pay calculator.
No. This calculator intentionally stops at gross pay and never estimates taxes, Social Security, Medicare, or other deductions. For a full gross-to-net paycheck estimate with 2026 federal tax brackets, use our take-home-pay calculator.
Weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual. Conversions use exact pay-period math: annual = weekly × 52, biweekly = weekly × 2, monthly = weekly × 52 ÷ 12. Enter bonuses, commissions, and tips per your chosen pay period and they are prorated automatically.
Total gross pay divided by total hours worked, including overtime hours. Example: $2,070 gross ÷ 45 hours = $46.00 per hour — higher than the $20 base rate because overtime, bonus, commission, and tips are included.
