Delay Time Calculator — BPM Timing Studio

Enter a BPM and get every time-based value in the session: delay time in ms for straight, dotted and triplet notes (quarter through 128th), slapback presets, reverb pre-delay and decay, compressor attack/release starting points, LFO rate in Hz, song length from bar count, and speaker distance in feet-to-ms for live sound. Use it as your BPM to ms calculator (bpm to milliseconds), dotted eighth delay calculator, tempo delay and echo calculator, pre-delay calculator and song length calculator in one page.

The formulas

beat_ms = 60,000 / BPM
delay_ms = beat_ms × note_beats
dotted = × 1.5  ·  triplet = × 2/3
lfo_hz = BPM / 60 × cycles_per_beat
song_seconds = bars × beats_per_bar × beat_ms / 1,000
speaker_ms = feet × 1.13  (feet = meters × 3.28084)
hz = 1,000 / ms

One beat is 60,000 milliseconds divided by the tempo. A quarter note lasts one beat; every other note value is a fixed multiple of it — an eighth note half a beat, a dotted note 1.5×, a triplet 2/3×. That single relationship drives the whole studio: delays, pre-delay, LFO rates and song length all fall out of it. Only two values are recommendations rather than math — compressor attack/release (a rule of thumb so the compressor breathes with the tempo) and reverb decay (room/plate/hall starting points) — and both are labeled as such.

Worked example: at 120 BPM, one beat = 500 ms. Dotted eighth = 500 × 0.75 = 375 ms. 64th-note pre-delay = 500 / 16 = 31.25 ms. A 128-bar song in 4/4 = 128 × 4 × 500 ms = 256 s = 4:16.
