Muscle-mass note: BMI cannot tell muscle from fat. If you lift weights or train athletically, a high BMI may overstate your health risk — track waist size and body fat % too, not BMI alone.

FAQ

What is a healthy BMI for men?
18.5 to 24.9 (WHO). Below 18.5 is underweight, 25–29.9 overweight, 30+ obese.
How is body fat % estimated for men?
With the Deurenberg formula for adult men: body fat % = 1.20 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 16.2. It is an estimate — a DEXA scan or calipers are more accurate.
Does BMI work for muscular men?
Not always — muscle is dense, so athletic men can land in "overweight" with low body fat. Combine BMI with waist measurement and body fat %.
Does BMI change with age?
The formula is age-free, but body composition shifts with age: men tend to lose muscle and gain fat at the same BMI. The body fat estimate above includes an age term for this reason.
What is my ideal weight range?
18.5 × height² (lower bound) to 24.9 × height² (upper bound), with height in metres, result in kilograms.
