Wondering what size belt should i get? This free belt size calculator converts waist size to belt size in one step. Enter your waist or pant size and get your belt size in inches, cm, EU size and letter — plus charts and a guide on how to measure belt size the way manufacturers do.
Convert waist size to belt size in one step: add 2 inches, then round up to the next even size. A belt size for 34 inch waist is 36 — a belt size for 32 inch waist is 34.
Belts are measured from the belt buckle to middle hole — the fold where the strap meets the buckle, to the center hole. Never end to end. Pick the measuring method you have numbers for:
Women's belts use the same +2 rule. A womens belt size chart maps a size 8 pants to about a 28 inch waist — a 30 inch belt. Enter either number:
Kids belt sizes run by age, not letters: ages 4–6 take a 22 inch belt, 7–10 take 26 inches, 12–16 take 30 inches. The kids belt size chart below lists the full mapping.

The charts below are composite manufacturer data (see sources). Numeric belt sizes are the distance from the buckle fold to the middle hole — letter sizes are just shorthand, and letters vary between brands, so trust the number first.
The belt size chart men see in most US stores: even numeric sizes with the middle hole at the stated number. 36 waist belt size shoppers buy a 38 belt; a 34 waist belt size buys 36.

US belt sizes are inches; EU sizes are centimeters. US to EU belt size conversion is inches × 2.54, and EU labels are rounded to the nearest 5 cm. A 36 belt is 91.4 cm, labeled EU 90; a 34 belt is 86.4 cm, labeled EU 85.
Three ways manufacturers measure, from most to least accurate:
1. Measure a belt you own. Lay it flat. Measure from the inside edge of the buckle — where the leather folds around the bar — to the hole you use most. That distance is your true belt size. How are belts measured wrong? End to end: the full strap always measures longer than the stated size, so an end-to-end number overstates your size.
2. Measure your waist. Thread a soft tape through your belt loops where the belt will sit, snug but not tight. Add 2 inches and round up to the next even number: a 33 inch waist becomes a size 36 belt.
3. Use your pant size. Add 2 inches to the size on the tag. It works, but vanity sizing makes it the least reliable — a 34 that fits may really be a 35 waist.
Whichever method you use, aim to land on the middle hole of a 5-hole belt: you get about 2 inches of adjustment in either direction for weight changes and thicker layers.
Start with the basic rule: add 2 inches to your waist or pant size. A 34 waist belt size is 36 inches, which is 91 cm (EU 90). That belt fits waists of about 34 to 38 inches, with the middle hole at 36 inches.
Belts are measured from the belt buckle to middle hole – the fold where the strap meets the buckle to the center hole – never end to end. A size 36 belt is 36 inches from buckle fold to middle hole, but about 4 inches longer tip to tip.
A belt size for 34 inch waist is 36 inches (91 cm). It sits on M in most store letter charts, and its 5-hole pattern gives about 2 inches of adjustment in either direction.
A belt size 36 in cm is 91 cm – 36 times 2.54 is 91.44, rounded. For EU labels, round to the nearest 5 cm, so 36 reads as EU 90. A belt size 34 in cm is 86 cm (EU 85).
The belt size S M L chart turns numbers into letters. On the mens belt size S M L chart most stores print, S covers belt sizes 32 to 34, M covers 36 to 38, L covers 40 to 42 and XL covers 44 to 46. A womens belt size S M L chart runs smaller: S is 28 to 30, M is 31 to 32 and L is 33 to 35.
About a 30 inch belt. A US size 8 is roughly a 28 inch waist, and adding 2 inches puts you at the midpoint of the 29 to 31 band – letter S on the womens belt size chart.
A 26 inch belt (66 cm). The kids belt size chart gives 26 inches for ages 7 to 10, so that is the band an 8 year old falls in. Kids belt sizes are guidance, not a standard.
No. Belt size vs pants size differs by 2 inches: the strap must wrap over your waistband, loops and clothes, and the size is measured to the middle hole, not your body. So a 32 waist belt size is a 34 belt.
Lay it flat and measure from the inside edge of the buckle – where the leather folds around the bar – to the hole you use most. That distance is your middle hole belt size. If you only have the full tip-to-tip length, subtract about 4 inches for a close estimate.
Add 2, then round up to the next even size. A 33 inch waist gives 35, so you buy a 36. The same rule answers the 36 waist belt size question: 36 plus 2 is a size 38 belt.
