5K Pace Calculator
Pure 5K pace math: target time ↔ pace per km / per mile, cumulative kilometre splits, and a 15:00–40:00 pace chart.
Scope note — what this tool does and does not do
This tool is 5K-specific, pure pace↔time arithmetic only. It converts a 5K target time to pace, predicts a 5K finish time from a pace, and lists cumulative splits — nothing else.
It does not predict other race distances (no Riegel / Cameron / VDOT models), no age-grading, and no Boston-qualifier analysis. For those, use our Running Pace Predictor (race-time prediction across distances, training paces, age grade & BQ analysis).
Formats: mm:ss (25:00), hh:mm:ss (1:02:30), or decimal minutes (25.5 = 25:30).
Pace: per km · per mile

Formats: m:ss per km (5:30) or decimal minutes per km (5.5 = 5:30).
Predicted 5K finish:
That is per mile.

Frequently asked questions
What pace do I need to run a 5K in 20 minutes?
Divide 20:00 by 5 km: exactly 4:00.0 per kilometre, which equals 6:26.2 per mile.
What pace is a 25-minute 5K?
A 25:00 5K requires 5:00.0 per kilometre, or 8:02.8 per mile.
If I run 5:30 per kilometre, what is my 5K finish time?
Multiply by 5: 5:30 x 5 = 27:30.
How are the cumulative kilometre splits calculated?
Split at kilometre n = pace x n. For a 20:00 target (4:00.0/km): 4:00, 8:00, 12:00, 16:00, 20:00.
How do I convert 5K pace from per kilometre to per mile?
Multiply the per-km pace by 1.609344. Example: 5:00.0/km x 1.609344 = 8:02.8/mi.
What time and pace input formats are accepted?
Three formats: mm:ss (25:00), hh:mm:ss (1:02:30), or decimal minutes (25.5 = 25:30). The same formats work for pace input, e.g. 5.5 = 5:30 per km.
What does the 5K pace chart cover?
Target times from 15:00 (3:00.0/km, 4:49.7/mi) to 40:00 (8:00.0/km, 12:52.5/mi), in one-minute steps.
Does this calculator predict other race distances, age-grade, or BQ times?
No. This tool is 5K-only pure pace/time math: no Riegel/Cameron/VDOT prediction, no age-grading, no Boston-qualifier analysis. For those, use the Running Pace Predictor.
