Items ↔ Stacks
Pick a stack size (or tap an item preset), then type an item count or a stack count.
Standard items (cobblestone, dirt, diamonds…) stack to 64.

How many containers do your items need? Or how much fits in your containers?
Uses the stack size selected on the Items ↔ Stacks tab (64). Change it there or tap a preset.

Worked examples
130 cobblestone → stacks
130 ÷ 64 = 2 full stacks, remainder 2
2 stacks + 2 items (2.03125 stacks). The leftover 2 cobblestone start a third, partial stack.
One shulker box of diamonds
27 slots × 64 = 1,728
A single shulker box holds 1,728 diamonds — the same as a single chest.
1,000 ender pearls (16-stack)
1,000 ÷ 16 = 62 stacks + 8 pearls
That's 3 shulker boxes (capacity 432 each); the last box holds 136 pearls.
Double chest of cobblestone
54 slots × 64 = 3,456
A double chest holds 3,456 items — exactly two shulker boxes' worth.
How the math works
- Items → stacks:
full = ⌊items ÷ size⌋,remainder = items − full × size, decimal stacks =items ÷ size. - Stacks → items:
items = round(stacks × size)(half values round to even, matching reference math). - Container capacity:
slots × stack size— shulker/single chest = 27 slots, double chest = 54 slots. - Containers needed:
⌈items ÷ capacity⌉; the last container holdsitems − (n−1) × capacity.
Stack sizes: 64 = standard blocks & items; 16 = ender pearls, eggs, snowballs, honey bottles, written books, armor stands, signs, empty buckets; 1 = tools, weapons, armor, shields, elytra. Same in Java & Bedrock.
Frequently asked questions
How many items are in a Minecraft stack?
Most Minecraft items stack to 64 per inventory slot — blocks like cobblestone and dirt, ingots, diamonds, food, and torches. A few special items stack to only 16 (ender pearls, eggs, snowballs), and tools, weapons, and armor don't stack at all (1 per slot). Use the item presets in this calculator to get the right stack size automatically.
How many items fit in a shulker box?
A shulker box has 27 inventory slots, the same as a single chest. Filled with 64-stack items it holds 27 × 64 = 1,728 items. With 16-stack items (like ender pearls) it holds 27 × 16 = 432 items, and with unstackable items (like swords) it holds 27 items.
How many items fit in a double chest in Minecraft?
A double chest has 54 slots. Filled with 64-stack items it holds 54 × 64 = 3,456 items — exactly twice a single chest or shulker box (1,728 items). This calculator's Storage tab works out containers needed for any item count.
Which Minecraft items only stack to 16?
The classic 16-stack items are ender pearls, eggs, and snowballs. Others that stack to 16 include honey bottles, written books, armor stands, signs, and empty buckets. Everything else stackable goes to 64, while tools, weapons, armor, shields, and elytra stack to 1.
Which Minecraft items don't stack at all?
Tools (pickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes), weapons (swords, bows, crossbows, tridents), armor pieces, shields, elytra, fishing rods, shears, and flint and steel each take one full inventory slot — a stack size of 1. A shulker box therefore holds only 27 of them.
How do I convert items to stacks?
Divide the item count by the stack size (usually 64) and round down: full stacks = floor(items ÷ 64), remainder = items mod 64. For example, 130 cobblestone ÷ 64 = 2 full stacks with 2 items left over. This calculator does the division instantly and shows the decimal stack count too (130 items = 2.03125 stacks).
How many stacks is 1,000 cobblestone?
1,000 cobblestone is 15 full stacks plus 40 items (15 × 64 = 960, remainder 40), or 15.625 stacks in decimal. Type any number into the Items ↔ Stacks tab to get the breakdown.
How many shulker boxes do I need for my items?
Divide your item count by the shulker capacity for that item's stack size and round up. For 64-stack items one shulker holds 1,728, so 5,000 dirt needs ceil(5,000 ÷ 1,728) = 3 shulker boxes (the last one holding 1,544). The Storage tab computes this including how full the last container is.
Is a shulker box the same size as a chest?
A shulker box has the same 27 slots as a single chest, so both hold 1,728 items of 64-stack goods. A double chest has 54 slots (3,456 items). The big advantage of shulker boxes is that they keep their contents when broken, making them portable storage.
Do stack sizes work the same in Minecraft Bedrock and Java?
Yes. The 64 / 16 / 1 stack rules, the 27-slot shulker box, and the 27/54-slot chests are identical in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, so this calculator works for both.
Can you put shulker boxes inside other shulker boxes?
No — in vanilla Minecraft you cannot nest shulker boxes inside each other. Each shulker box occupies one inventory slot (they stack to 1), so an inventory of 27 shulker boxes of cobblestone carries 27 × 1,728 = 46,656 items.
Why does the calculator show a remainder?
Because item counts rarely divide evenly by 64 (or 16). The remainder is the leftover items that don't fill a complete stack — for example 100 dirt = 1 full stack of 64 plus a remainder of 36. Knowing the remainder tells you exactly how much space the partial stack needs.
