Injury Settlement Calculator — Personal Injury, Car Accident & Workers' Comp Lab
Free · 5-mode lab · 100% client-side — your numbers never leave this browser
One neutral lab for the three settlement questions people actually ask: how much is my personal injury case worth (multiplier method), what is my car accident settlement (with diminished value and liens), what does workers' comp pay for this body part in my state (interactive multi-state chart), which state pays most (the geographic lottery), and what do I actually take home after the lawyer and medical liens.
What this lab answers
- How are settlements calculated? — the multiplier method, explained with a worked example in the methodology section below.
- Personal injury settlement calculator — estimate your case value by injury severity in the PI Settlement tab.
- Pain and suffering calculator — multiplier bands from 1.5x to 10x, matched to your severity.
- Bodily injury settlement calculator — the PI estimator covers bodily injury claims from any accident type.
- How much is my personal injury settlement worth? — start with the PI tab, then check take-home in Net After Fees.
- Car accident settlement calculator — medical, wages, pain & suffering, property damage, and diminished value in one place.
- Car accident insurance settlement calculator — the same components insurers use, then subtract the contingency fee and medical liens to see your take-home.
- Car accident pain and suffering calculator — pick your severity in the Car Accident tab; the multiplier math is shown step by step.
- Workers comp settlement calculator — scheduled weeks × your weekly comp rate for 14 states.
- Workers comp settlement chart — a body part workers comp settlement chart, interactive across 14 states; compare every state side by side in the State Compare tab.
- Lump sum workers comp settlement calculator — see the full scheduled value first, so you can judge whether a lump-sum offer is fair.
Personal Injury Settlement Estimator
Severity picks the multiplier band. Override it below if you have a reason.
Pain & suffering = medical bills × multiplier. Total = economic damages (medical + wages) + pain & suffering.
Multiplier bands by severity
| Severity | Multiplier range |
|---|
Industry rule of thumb (adjuster-dependent, not a guarantee). Higher multipliers need documented, serious, lasting injury.
Reported average settlements by injury type
| Injury type | Reported average range |
|---|
Ranges reported in industry publications. Your case turns on facts, liability, and policy limits — not on the average.

Damages
Diminished value
Deductions
Diminished value is often 10–25% of pre-accident value. Most states let you claim it from the at-fault driver's insurer.
Workers' Comp Body-Part Payout Chart
Weekly comp rate = 2/3 of AWW, capped at the state maximum where published.
Schedule data vintage: statutory schedules checked October 2026. Schedules change rarely, but weekly rate caps change yearly — verify with your state workers' comp board before relying on any figure.
States with rating systems (no fixed week schedule)
These states pay permanent disability from impairment ratings or whole-body formulas instead of a body-part week chart, so this calculator does not fake numbers for them:
| State | How it works |
|---|
State Comparison — the Geographic Lottery
Same injury, same loss percentage, same weekly rate — wildly different payouts. Pick a body part and see all 14 covered states ranked.
| State | Scheduled weeks (100% loss) | Weeks at your % | Payout |
|---|
Payout = scheduled weeks × loss % × your weekly rate. Rate caps ignored here by design — this isolates the schedule differences.
Net After Fees — What You Actually Take Home
The standard US personal-injury contingency fee is 33% pre-trial, often 40% if the case goes to trial. Liens are frequently negotiable — every dollar reduced goes straight to you.
How settlements are calculated — methodology
Personal injury: the multiplier method
pain & suffering = medical bills × multiplier (1.5–10 by severity)
estimated settlement = economic damages + pain & suffering
This is the industry rule of thumb adjusters use to open negotiations. It is not a guarantee: liability disputes, pre-existing conditions, the quality of medical documentation, venue, and the at-fault party's insurance policy limits (which cap many cases) all move the final number. Treat every estimate as educational.
Car accidents: five components
take-home = settlement − attorney fee − medical liens
Workers' comp: weeks × rate
weekly comp rate = min(2/3 × average weekly wage, state maximum)
Week schedules are set by state statute (sources listed in the page notes) and change rarely; weekly maximums change nearly every year. Fourteen states with verified fixed schedules are covered; rating-system states are disclosed rather than estimated.
