Florida Overtime Pay Calculator

Florida has no state overtime law of its own — the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) applies. Calculate time-and-a-half pay (1.5×) for hours worked over 40 per week, whether you are paid hourly or on salary.

Educational estimate, not legal or employment advice. Overtime rules depend on real facts (job duties, salary basis, tipped wages). Verify your situation with a qualified employment attorney or the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.

1. Your pay details

Overtime is only counted from hours above 40 in a single workweek — Florida has no daily overtime rule.

Employment status

Exempt means your job passes all three FLSA tests: salary basis, salary level (≥ $684/week), and job duties.

3. Salary → hourly rate

Paid on a fixed salary? Convert to an hourly rate first (2,080 hours/year basis = 40 hours × 52 weeks), then see the overtime rate.

Hourly rate
$25.00
Overtime rate (1.5×)

Weekly salary

Formula: weekly salary = salary ÷ 52 (annual), × 12 ÷ 52 (monthly), ÷ 2 (biweekly); hourly rate = weekly salary ÷ 40.

5. See the math, step by step

Every number below is computed directly by the same engine above.

Hourly worker: $20/hour, 50 hours (40 regular + 10 overtime)

Salaried worker: $1,000/week, 45 hours (40 regular + 5 overtime)

Florida minimum wage: $15/hour, 45 hours (40 regular + 5 overtime)

Methodology

6. Exactly how it is computed

Florida follows the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for overtime. The formulas used:

overtime_pay = overtime_hours × (1.5 × regular_rate)
base_pay = regular_hours × hourly_rate
total_pay = base_pay + overtime_pay
effective_rate = total_pay ÷ total_hours_worked

Salary → hourly rate: salary is first converted to a weekly figure, then divided by 40:

weekly = salary ÷ 52 (annual)  |  salary × 12 ÷ 52 (monthly)  |  salary ÷ 2 (biweekly)
hourly_rate = weekly_salary ÷ 40  (2,080 hours/year basis)

Florida minimum wage (verified, date-stamped): under Florida Constitution Amendment 2 approved by voters on November 3, 2020, the minimum wage rises $1 each year:

EffectiveMinimum wageMin. overtime rate (1.5×)
September 30, 2024$13.00/hour$19.50/hour
September 30, 2025$14.00/hour$21.00/hour
September 30, 2026$15.00/hour$22.50/hour

Starting in 2027, Florida’s minimum wage is adjusted annually with the consumer price index (CPI-W). Because the state rate is higher than the federal $7.25/hour, the Florida rate applies as the floor.

Exempt salary threshold (verified): for the executive, administrative, and professional exemptions, the salary test is at least $684/week ($35,568/year). The 2024 DOL rule that would have raised it was struck down by a federal court in late 2024, and the May 2026 DOL technical amendment formally restored the $684 threshold (highly compensated employees: $107,432/year). Salary above $684 only passes the salary test — the salary basis test and duties test must also be met, and this calculator cannot decide that.

Assumptions: one workweek; USD; no tip credit, blended rates, or fluctuating workweek schemes. Results are rounded to the nearest cent (half-up) for display.

Educational estimate, not legal or employment advice. Overtime disputes depend on specific facts. For your situation, consult a qualified employment attorney or the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. Rules can change — the numbers above carry explicit date stamps so they can be re-checked.

What this calculator does not compute

  • Overtime tax. This tool computes gross overtime pay. The federal income-tax deduction on qualifying overtime pay (tax years 2025–2028) is a separate matter — see the overtime tax calculator.
  • Full net pay. For federal/state deductions and take-home pay, use the take-home pay calculator.
  • Generic salary conversion. For salary ↔ hourly conversion outside the overtime context, see the salary hourly calculator.
  • Other states. California overtime rules differ (they include daily overtime) — see california overtime; the Georgia version (also FLSA) is at georgia overtime.
