Cube Density Calculator — Mass, Volume & Density
Enter any two of mass, side length, or density and this free cube density calculator finds the third. It uses the density of a cube formula ρ = m / s³, converts between metric and imperial units, and shows every step of the calculation.
Tip: pick a material below to auto-fill its density.
Density of a Cube Formula
To calculate the density of a cube, divide its mass by the cube of its side length. The three rearranged forms cover every case:
- Find density: ρ = m / s³
- Find mass of a cube given density and side length: m = ρ × s³
- Find side length of a cube from mass and density: s = ∛(m / ρ)
Worked example — density of a steel cube: a steel cube with 2 cm sides and a mass of 62.8 g has volume V = 2³ = 8 cm³, so ρ = 62.8 / 8 = 7.85 g/cm³ — matching the known density of steel.
Common Material Densities
Tap a material to load its density into the calculator, then enter your cube's mass or side length. Useful for checking whether a cube is solid gold vs. plated, estimating shipping weight, or verifying a concrete cube density test.
| Material | Density (g/cm³) | Density (kg/m³) |

How to Find the Density of a Cube — Step by Step
- Weigh the cube to get its mass (a kitchen scale works for small cubes).
- Measure one side with a ruler or calipers — all sides of a cube are equal.
- Cube the side length to get the volume: V = s × s × s.
- Divide mass by volume: ρ = m / V. Match your units: grams with cm³ gives g/cm³; kilograms with m³ gives kg/m³.
- Sanity-check against the table above — if your "gold" cube computes to 8.9 g/cm³, it is probably brass or copper.
