Break an asset's return into two components: capital gains yield (price appreciation) and dividend yield (dividends). Total return is the sum of both.
Buy price P0 = 100, sell price P1 = 115, dividends = 3:
Capital gains yield = (115 − 100) ÷ 100 = 15%
Dividend yield = 3 ÷ 100 = 3%
Total return = 15% + 3% = 18%
Annualizing an 18% total return over 180 days: (1.18)365/180 − 1 = 39.88% (daily compounding).
Capital gains yield is the percentage increase in an asset's price relative to its buy price. The formula is (P1 - P0) / P0. For example, a buy price of Rp100 thousand and a sell price of Rp115 thousand gives a capital gains yield of 15 percent.
Subtract the initial price from the final price, then divide the result by the initial price. Example: (115 - 100) / 100 = 0.15, or 15 percent.
Capital gains yield only measures price appreciation. Total return adds dividend yield — dividends received divided by the initial buy price. If capital gains yield is 15 percent and dividend yield is 3 percent, total return is 18 percent.
Dividend yield is the total dividends received during the holding period divided by the initial buy price. Example: Rp3 thousand in dividends on a Rp100 thousand buy price means a 3 percent dividend yield.
This calculator uses daily compounding: (1 + r)^(365 / number of days) - 1. This method assumes return is spread evenly over the period, and the result is an educational estimate, not an exact projection.
No. All results on this page are educational estimates for understanding an asset's return components, not a recommendation to buy or sell any asset.
