Atal Pension Yojana is an Indian Government pension scheme regulated by PFRDA. Participants aged 18 to 40 pay periodic contributions until age 60, then receive a GUARANTEED monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000, paid for life. Contribution amounts follow the official indicative table by entry age and chosen pension slab.
Can Indonesians join APY?
No. APY is only open to Indian citizens aged 18 to 40 with a bank savings account, Aadhaar, and active mobile number. Since 1 October 2022, anyone who has ever been an income taxpayer cannot open a new APY account. This calculator is for educational reference.
How much is the monthly APY contribution?
Monthly contributions depend on entry age and pension slab, per the official PFRDA indicative table. Anchor examples: joining at 18 for a ₹1,000/month pension costs ₹42/month; joining at 40 for a ₹5,000/month pension costs ₹1,454/month. The younger you join, the smaller the contribution.
When does the APY pension start paying?
The pension starts at age 60, paid monthly for life. If the subscriber dies, the spouse receives the same monthly pension for life.
What do heirs receive if both subscriber and spouse die?
The nominee receives the entire accumulated fund as a lump-sum corpus. Indicative values: ₹1.70 lakh for the ₹1,000 slab up to ₹8.50 lakh for the ₹5,000 slab.
Can you exit APY before age 60?
Voluntary withdrawal before age 60 is only allowed in extraordinary circumstances such as terminal illness. On voluntary exit, government co-contributions plus interest are forfeited and only the contributions are returned. Detailed terms follow applicable bank and PFRDA rules.
What is the fine for late APY contributions?
Banks levy a fine for each month of delay: ₹1 for contributions up to ₹100; ₹2 for ₹101 to ₹500; ₹5 for ₹501 to ₹1,000; ₹10 above ₹1,000. Collected fines become part of the pension corpus. 6 months in arrears freezes the account, 12 months deactivates it, 24 months closes it.
Can the pension slab be changed after enrolling?
Yes. Subscribers can raise or lower the pension slab once a year, in April, via the bank where the APY account was opened. Monthly contributions adjust per the official table for the same entry age.
What is the difference between APY and NPS?
APY provides a GUARANTEED monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 fixed from the start, for Indian citizens aged 18 to 40. NPS returns follow market performance without guarantees, open to ages 18 to 70 including NRIs. Both are regulated by PFRDA.
How accurate are this calculator's figures?
Monthly contribution figures come from the official PFRDA indicative table and were cross-verified against official documents on 9 October 2026. Total contributions = monthly × 12 × years of contributions; actual bank figures may differ slightly due to rounding and rule revisions. All results are educational estimates, not financial advice.
